Rieger K2 Contra Bassoon shape, four wire long tube or three wire short tube, thread wrap, cut tip. 20.50mm tip.
One of my two Contra Bassoon shapes, four wires for a warmer darker sound. The K2 is an excellent Mechler (M, Cup, Christlieb, Convex), Style Contra shape, for added depth and bass in the sound.

These contra reeds may look a little strange, but they are made ready to play. The special tip cut is made by a jig for consistent results and are available in Medium/Light response with either a Normal Blended scrape, a “chevron cut” tip or the “ chevron and back cut”. As a student I found it quite difficult to find a professional Contra Bassoon reed that did not need a lot of work just to funcion. These reeds are inspired by the John Shamlian reeds that were always free blowing with a pleasant and quite dark sound. I am currently not working on a loud reed, since those are easier to find. ( maybe in the future … also there is currently not a metal wrap version either). The K2 shape is excellent for added bass, depth and a dark sound.
